A Few Tips on Throwing a Great Tailgate

You don’t have to be the one with the elaborate RV’s that are bbq’ing an entire pig, with the huge sound system and projector to have a great tailgate that your friends would be proud to be a part of.  Now that we are in the midst of college and NFL football, nothing is better than the changing of the seasons, the fall weather, and football.  While going to the game is exciting in itself, sometimes tailgating is the best part.  Get your buddies together, pick up a case of beer and some Fireball, bring out the tailgating grill, and get ready to cook up those chicken wings and hamburgers.  It can be overwhelming to some to plan a successful tailgate, but can be hassle free and more time left to enjoy a couple extra beers.

A Little Organization Goes a Long Way

While the hardcore tailgaters will be heading out as soon as sun up, you can take advantage of any extra minutes of sleep with a quick load of the truck.  Keep a storage bin with the tailgating essentials so that you do not have to pack each time and can be thrown in the truck without any thought.  Keep a couple of your extra small propane tanks in there for the tailgating grill so you never have to worry about running out, in addition to your grilling equipment such as tongs and seasonings.  Paper towel, a box of knives and forks, and paper plates are a must to be included, and don’t forget trash bags for easy cleanup.

Don’t Forget the Fun

Whether you refer to it as “corn hole”, “bag toss”, or as we just simply call it “bags”, make sure you bring your bean bag toss game as it has gained popularity in recent years and are now a tailgating must.  If you are handy they can be built at home and finished off with a custom paint job supporting your favorite team, or you can find an already assembled set with team logo on from just about any sporting goods retailer.  Once the food is out of the way, games such as “beer pong” and “flip cup” are still tailgating standards, but games such as “beersby” that requires a couple poles sunk into the ground and have a good Frisbee throw are now becoming more popular.  Don’t forget the football, as it is still fun pretending you have the arm or skills to be in the game yourself.
