You are on the fence about whether or not you want to setup your own blog.  There is a particular topic that you feel that you are knowledgeable in but you aren’t quite sure whether you should take the plunge and commit to a blog.  Well below are five reasons why you should setup your blog.

You Will Improve Your Skills as a Writer

Writing is just like any other activity we undertake in life.  We may not be very good at it in the beginning, but with practice we improve and in many instances master the activity.  Blogging requires someone to improve their communication skills as they must regularly develop compelling material that users will want to read.  In time, you will discover a change in your writing and improve in your ability to communicate with others.

Helps You Stay Knowledgeable

When you regularly blog on a topic or group of topics, you will have to keep up to date on that topic if for no other reason than to have information to blog about in the future.  Your blog will usually lead to you coming in contact with others in the same field and developing a network of resources that can help you stay ahead of the curve in your particular field.

There are a lot of other bloggers who can help you too. You’ll just have to do some research and you will definitely find great topics and tutorials on the internet. Blogging tips, Blogspot and WordPress video tutorials are always just one click away.

Can Lead to Potential Job Offers

Blogging can help establish you as an expert in a particular field or subject area.  In addition, your blog can serve as a portfolio of work that you can show off to potential employers.  Many freelance writers are encouraged to develop their own blog and regularly update it.  Some are discovered through their blogs and ultimately go on to develop careers in writing or other areas thanks to their blog.

Make Some Money

Blogs can be used to make money if the blogger puts in the time and effort to monetize their blog.  This can be done in a variety of ways.  Advertising is one of the most common ways that bloggers make money with their blogs while others will sell books or other merchandise.  Keep in mind that most bloggers do not make a lot of money with their blogs, but it can make a nice side income for those who put in the time.

Help and Inspire Others

Blogs are great tools for sharing information and helping others along the road of life.  By the way, helpful blogs do not necessarily need to be about the issues of the day.  Blogs on healthy eating, healthy lifestyles, parenting, and a variety of other topics exist to help people in their everyday lives.  The information you share may be just what one of your readers needs to hear that day, and for that one person your blog can make a difference.

  1. I love blogging! There are so many positives.

  2. Great points! I’m a pretty new blogger and I’m really enjoying myself. Thinking about the topics that you want to write is easy. Writing itself and providing great content is hard. But I’m sure with practice, everything will flow smoothly.

  3. Blogging keeps people on the cutting edge of whatever subject they choose, as you point out (and as you certainly do, on this blog!).

    • It’s true–now that we own a financial blog, it’s really making me evaluate how much I know and what I believe before I try to share my thoughts on the subject. I don’t want to mislead people!

  4. All great points, when I first got started almost 5 years ago I knew I wanted to earn some extra cash but I had no idea of all the other benefits that came along with it as well. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

  5. Three and a half years into my blogging journey, I wouldn’t trade it for just about anything. But at the same time, I was reflecting on what I’ve given up to be a blogger. Yesterday, I was raging a book that I couldn’t put down. I went to bed last night after finishing the book but without having written anything for today’s post. I had to get up an you’re early thus morning to write something. Blogging has made me choose between sleep and hobbies.

    • Same here…I was finishing up lastnights post when I really wanted to play Call of Duty. I’m not a morning person so I have to finish writing before I go to bed so some nights are shorter. I wouldn’t give up this past year of Fearless Men and now that we have two blogs it’s even more exciting!

  6. Great points on blogging. It’s an invigerating experience to complete a good blog post!
