Our favorite Mediterranean islands

Did you know that the Balearic Islands are the most popular cheap holiday destination in Europe? Bet you didn’t but maybe you’re not surprised. Who wouldn’t make them their favorite destination when they realize this cluster of Mediterranean islands get 300 days of sunshine every year. OK so winter temperatures might not tempt you to strip off on the beach, but it’s still considerably warmer than most of the US.

Other reasons

As well as the great weather and the golden beaches what else makes the islands of Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza so popular for cheap all inclusive breaks?

They all offer great places for the family to holiday. Even Ibiza has a side away from the partying. Playa D’en Bossa is perfect for all the family except those set on staying up all night enjoying some dancing. This resort comes complete with a super water park for the kids.

Majorca offers more beautiful beaches and fantastic restaurants. You can enjoy some traditional Spanish cuisine or more local Balearic dishes. So avoid the “International” restaurants serving familiar fare as you can dine on that anytime back home. Check out the Spanish ones for authentic Tapas, Paella or fresh fish. If you’re a golfing fan, Majorca will give you plenty of opportunities to swing a club too.

Menorca the quieter island of the three has pretty unspoilt beaches. Another water park will keep the family amused at Los Delfines. Even mum and dad might want to risk the giant toboggan – it’s OK to scream if you want to go faster! There’s no shame!

It’s a FavoriteMediterranean Cuisine Spot

What about some celebrity spotting whilst you’re there? These islands really have attracted some A-listers in their time including Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones, Gwyneth Paltrow, Claudia Schiffer, Leonardo di Caprio and Dustin Hoffman. A real mixed bag so who knows who you’ll run into.

So don’t dismiss the Balearics as merely party islands. A cheap or all inclusive holiday here can more than satisfy all holiday makers.
