If you smoke, you might not be too sure of the cost for your health, as well as your bank balance. The former is by far the most important, especially if you’ve been lighting up for a number of years. There have been numerous public health campaigns over the years which have highlighted the dangers of smoking, yet awareness of the harm it causes isn’t quite what it could be.

Quit Smoking! Kicking the habit for good?

It’s common knowledge that smoking is difficult to give up, largely because of the nicotine content of a typical cigarette. To give up, willpower and focus is needed, as is a goal. Setting yourself a target could ensure that you manage to say goodbye to smoking, which could at least partially undo some of the damage it has done to your health.

Among the bad things that smoking can do to your body are:

  • Cause respiratory problems. The build-up of tar in your lungs which comes with smoking regularly and/or heavily can make breathing a little more difficult, with asthma and bronchitis just two diseases that could develop.
  • Cause your body to prematurely age. Your skin could become more wrinkled, your hair a little more brittle and your teeth are likely to acquire a dirty yellow color.
  • Making you feel a little more lethargic and out-of-breath.

Quitting sooner rather than later could ensure that whatever damage has been done already will be halted or reversed. It could be the best decision you’ve ever made, and not just because of the health benefits that giving up can bring.

Saving a packet

Smoking isn’t only expensive in terms of health. As the price of a normal packed of 20 cigarettes will prove, it can be pretty costly to take it up in the first place. Using this calculator provided by ecigarettedirect.co.uk, you could work out how much money you stand to save by not smoking.

The money saved could be spent on something you like as a reward – a holiday, some new clothes or even a new gadget, depending on how you want to treat yourself. Quitting makes perfect sense if you want to prolong your life and bulk up your wallet.

  1. There are lots of federal quitlines that offer great advice and often free kits to quit smoking.

  2. Smoking is bad! My dad passed away partially due to lung cancer, so I truly know how bad it can be.

  3. I couldn’t agree more with this post – it’s such a gross habit and it’s disheartening to see people, especially ones in their teens or early 20’s, light up. Plus, it just seems really expensive!

  4. Most smokers already know all this, yet they still persist in smoking, this is as a result of the psychological and physical addiction they have to tobacco. The key to helping people quit smoking lies in addressing this addiction aspects.
