Christmas Movies, makes a great Family Tradition!

We all have those Christmas movies that we watch every December. Huddled around with hot chocolate and cookies. I hear some even start watching in November right after Thanksgiving. I say that’s a bit too soon, but if you got a long list I guess you better start early. There are too many Christmas movies to count. But we each got our favorite. It didn’t matter how many times you saw it…you could still get a good laugh out of it. As a kid mine was Home Alone. Who didn’t love that movie? Every teenage boys fantasy of causing a ruckus at home in the name of self-defense or defending the household. Doesn’t get set-up any better than that! Another Christmas movie I grew up on was White Christmas. Can’t stand the movie anymore. If I have to sit through it, give me the remote so I can fast forward to my favorite parts and then I’ll be able to watch it. For some of you this might be your favorite though so I’ll speak no more on it. Every family has their movie traditions. Globally at the same time every year each family is watching Christmas movies. How awesome is that? Think about it!

I’ve compiled a list of my top 5 and some others that might be on your top 5. We’d love to hear about some of your Christmas movie traditions. Either in your own family or when you were growing up.

Home Alone

Elf

Already watched it once this Christmas!

So I know this came out in my 20’s but it’s hilarious and should belong in every home. One of my favorite scenes is when he’s winding up the toys and it surprises him every time….then later when he’s riding Santa’s sleigh it catches him again. Cracks me up every time and is worth a rewind.

It’s A Wonderful Life

Another movie that I saw way too many times as a kid. I could’ve quoted it line for line. But if I can get my hands on a copy now would definitely watch it.

A Christmas Vacation

Uncle Lewis: Hey Grizz, Bethany and I figured out the perfect gift for you.

Clark Griswold: Aw, you didn’t have to get me anything.

Uncle Lewis: Dammit, Bethany, he guessed it.

Jingle All The Way

I was a huge Terminator II, Predator, Commando….Arnold fan. So when this one came out you know I watched it!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

A Christmas Story

Actually haven’t seen this one yet but got it DVRed for later this evening…

White Christmas

Am I jinxing myself by having it on this list?

The Santa Clause

I’ve never actually seen this from start to finish…but it’s on my to-watch list.

A Christmas Carol

This ones only on here because all it did was scare the Christmas out of me. The only part of the movie I remember is when his buddies ghost is dragging all his chains and that eerie screech sound….Yea, I was like 4 or 5 years old and didn’t like this movie but it gets a spot for taking a spot in my memory.

  • Oh man! Great work...I LOVE Home Alone, Elf, and the Grinch. We were trying to figure out what was going to be on (public) television tonight and I think my wife said It's a Wonderful Life will be on. We also rented The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe which we'll be watching tomorrow!

    Have a great Christmas!
