Wine is sweeping the nation, and there is no reason why you shouldn’t be drinking it too! Of course we cannot change you into a wine-o if you’re in love with whiskey, craft beers, and vodka, but wine should not be overlooked. Ordering a glass of wine while in a date with a girl might not be something that has ever crossed your mind, but it should be. Let her pick the bottle to share, or at least know if you like reds or whites. Taking part in a wine tasting on a date or with friends is a great experience that could benefit you in the future. Learning the different types of wines by tasting them is the only true way you will ever know what kind of wine you like. I could write that red wines gave deep robust flavors that pair well with red meat and hearty pasta, and I could tell you that some white wines are sweet and fruity abs go well with seafood and cream sauces. Host a wine tasting party with your wife. It sound boring or snooty, but it’s actually a great social event. You can hire someone to bring bottles of wine and run the party, or you can created check list of flavors for your guest to record their favorite aspects of each wine such as sweet, fruity, dry, etc. At the party have people rate their favorite wines from 1-10, and have someone teach the group about the 5 S’s of wine tasting (swirl, sniff, sip, swish, swallow). Having great food and snacks at the wine tasting party is important. A few kinds of cheeses, sausages, cured meats, grapes, crusty bread, crackers, jams, and figs are wonderful appetizers for a wine tasting party.
If a wine tasting party is not your thing, go to a winery on a date and lean about the wine. It will create a new appreciation for wine and you get to try all different kinds. Locally we have a few wine bars, where you can purchase a swipe card for wine distributors. They will pour you a taste, half glass or full glass of the wine you choose. This is a great way to taste a lot of different types of wines and read about their different qualities. People always say knowledge is power, so learning and educating yourself about wine can be delicious and fun.
