1. Take the time to go see her, and don’t forget flowers. You can Save up to 25% on flowers and gifts at FTD. Give her a big hug and tell her you love her. And bring something you two can do together that you know she loves. Remember, you may have moved out but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring back some of the memories. Grab a scrabble board or take her to her favorite restaurant. You get the idea…

2. A day at the Spa – Your mom took care of you so why not treat her to a full day of relaxation. Gift cards and online coupons are easy to find for your city. And if she has the time, take her to it yourself.

3. Does your mom love gardening? Find the nearest nursery and let her pick out her own plant. She’ll enjoy the experience of being surrounded by all that nature and will get to bring a bit of that back home with her.

  1. Not trying to plug products – but I got my mum this book for Christmas called “Dear mum, from you to me” (google it) and it’s essentially a book of questions for her to answer about her life, you growing up etc etc and she can write them in to this book and give them back to you or discuss them together.

  2. No matter what your gift is, as long as you took the time to see her and be with her on this day, I think it will be greatly appreciated. But I like these gift ideas as well. I’m going to give my mom the new novel from Grisham and give it to her personally. Maybe some dinner afterwards.

    • I agree, if possible, seeing her is most important. Because my moms a long plane ride away I’m going to try and get something for her through my brother.

  3. Great ideas Jon! We like to spend the day together as a family do some things that my wife enjoys that we do not always get to do.

  4. Flowers are a classic go-to move for Mom. Have to get the card as well, with a good handwritten note. Something that slips in a little humor is always well appreciated. With moms its all about the thought, so each situation is a little different. Solid advice is to just do not buy something expensive, spend some time thinking about it showing that you care.

  5. A gift certificate from Spa Sydell has been my gift of choice for several years. This year though, I’m switching it up and getting my mom a new cell phone. Normally, I wouldn’t dare get her technology but she’s in desperate need of a phone with a larger screen and better camera. It’s painful looking at the fuzzy, 2 MP photos she takes on her antique device.

    • I like this idea! It’s different but now you’ll be able to maybe talk more and she can take better quality pics. I’m sure she’ll love it!

  6. Not going to be this year, butI want to take my mother to Hells Kitchen because she is a big fan of Gordon Ramsey.

  7. As I live quite a distance from Mom I like to always try an get her something special on Mothers Day… This year have bought her the Newspaper on the day she was born… I see it it something that has become quite popular… and a box of nougart,,, mom prefers that to chocs

    • I never even thought of that….I wonder if it’s popular for other gifts too. I’m a good distance too so I might check it out. Although, my mom’s more of the flowers type of woman.

  8. Whatever you do, just make sure you don’t put it on her credit card! I had a buddy who used to get flowers for his mom and would put it on her credit card. Pretty lame.

  9. Nice ideas. For me my mom is out of town so it is harder but you make some good points here. She loves Applebees so maybe a gift certificate may be a good gift. Thanks for your post.

  10. The last mother’s day, I gave my mom a nice set of gardening tools, which she is fond of. I think the best gifts are the gifts that shows you care about her, something that shows that you know what she is doing lately. But I can’t disagree with beauty products. Thanks for your post.
