DIY Non-Toxic Hand Sanitizer

DIY hand sanitizerDo you carry a hand sanitizer with you either in your pocket or in the glove box in your car?  We all do!  Who wants those nasty germs from the gym or even from shaking someone’s hand?  However, the popular brands of hand sanitizer are laden with chemicals that are nastier than the common cold.

Why would you put your body at risk with either chemicals or a virus you could contract?   You wouldn’t!  Instead, be proactive and make your own hand sanitizer!  It is ridiculously easy to make and it comes with the assurance that you aren’t polluting your body with toxic chemicals.

You ready to start?! Here is the list of things you will need:

Ingredients:

Pure Aloe Gel

¼ tsp Vitamin E Oil

6 drops Thieves EO (This company, Young Living, sells it)

Distilled Water

Small Squeeze Bottle (They sell these in the travel section of stores)

Instructions:

  1. Fill your squeeze bottle with aloe about 2/3 of the way full.
  1. Add the Vitamin E.
  1. Add 6 drops of Thieves Essential Oil and shake it!
  1. Finally, at the distilled water until it is at your favorite consistency.

Voila!  You now have in your possession a fantastic non-toxic hand sanitizer!

I bet you’re still wondering what Thieves Essential oil is, huh?  How did it get its name and what is in exactly?  Well, it is a blend of clove, cinnamon bark, lemon, eucalyptus, and rosemary essential oils.  It got its name from literally a band of thieves during the 15th century in Europe.  They would rob the homes of people who had the plague, but they never contracted it themselves.  They were eventually caught by authorities but were given a lesser sentence in exchange for revealing how they had avoided the plague.  Their secret?  They would soak their handkerchiefs in these herbs and spices and cover their nose and mouth during their robberies.

So, the point of this story?  Well, Thieves EO blend is highly antibacterial, antiseptic, anti-infectious and antiviral.   If you have kids…well, there you go! Kids are always getting colds and this is a great preventive method and it won’t harm them or you!

Think about how much hand sanitizer you could make by purchasing those ingredients versus buying bottles of Purell at the store! You really could save a bundle of money.  So, go out and get those ingredients and stop using those toxic chemicals!

  1. Commercial hand sanitizer has chemicals in it which are bad for the muscles in your hands, but this seems like it would be okay! Thanks for sharing 🙂
